For more than 20 years my mountain bike has taken me on incredible adventures in extraordinary places.
I’ve ridden trails that not only push physical limits but reveal deeper connections between people, places, and cultures. These experiences have shaped how we approach every project at LOAM.
Some of my most unforgettable moments came on my adventure in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan with Dan Milner. Riding across vast, empty plains, and staying in yurts with local families felt like stepping back in time.
Further east, Bhutan welcomed me with its lush forests and centuries-old temples perched high on the mountainsides. Every trail here is imbued with a spiritual energy, a reflection of the Bhutanese way of life that ties people to the land. It was a humbling reminder of the power of nature to connect us across cultures.
Even closer to home, the rugged wilderness of Torridon remains one of my favourite places to ride. Scotland’s rugged coastline, with its dramatic ridges and moody skies, is where it all started for me. The raw beauty of these landscapes never fails to inspire, whether it’s an early morning ride enveloped in sea mist or a golden sunset casting long shadows over the cliffs.
Each place—Nepal, Bhutan, Scotland, and beyond—has deepened my appreciation for the world’s diversity, not just in trails but in the people and cultures that shape them. From Ecuador’s volcanic highlands to New Zealand’s Old Ghost Road, and from the red-dirt paths of Africa to the towering peaks of the Dolomites, every adventure adds a new chapter to a story that spans continents.
